The Best There Is.. X-Men First Class movie review.

June 29, 2011

So, I finally saw X-Men First Class tonight, and I have to say definitely the best of the X-Men movies so far! The story, although nowhere near the storylines of the comics, was entertaining and well scripted . Watching the origins of the founder X-Men members on film was great, and the relationship between Xavier and Magneto was done brilliantly. I liked the retro feel of the movie, as we see old movie reels of the Soviets and President Kennedy throughout the film. The actors did a good job at bringing these larger than life comic book characters to life, especially Micheal Fassbender who plays a younger, tortured Magneto struggling with his thirst for revenge on a villain from his past-Sebastian Shaw played cunningly by Kevin Bacon.

Of course, there are some liberties taken with the characters, stories, and mythos of the beloved X-Men; however, I feel these changes are made for a better movie experience. Really, these movies are always going to stray from the original source material, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be enjoyable in their own way. I hope Fox Studios gets their act together for the upcoming Wolverine movie, because so far all the X-Men movies until this recent one were disappointing. *Spoiler Alert* On that note, I thought the Wolverine cameo to be unnecessary seeing Fox Studios is trying to reboot the franchise.

Overall, finally a X-Men movie that all fans can enjoy! So they change the stories and origins of the founder X-Men characters, get over it; it’s just a movie.

Random Marvel Thoughts of the Week

May 2, 2010

Okay, here’s some thoughts on various Marvel news this week.

1. First Picture of Thor. So, Marvel Studios released the first image of Thor this past week. I think Chris Hemsworth will be great as the God of Thunder. The image doesn’t show a lot, but it gives us Marvel nerds a teaser to pique our interest. The Thor movie is slated for release in 2011, and is being directed by Shakespearean actor and director Kenneth Branagh. This is a great choice for director as Thor has always been a different realm of the Marvel Universe. I look forward to his take on the Norse legends and Gods, and I’m sure it won’t disappoint the hardcore fans. Although, my one concern is that this movie might not find a broad audience, like the X-Men or Spiderman franchises, because it might not have the same appeal to casual moviegoers . I hope that’s not the case, and it does well because it may be a measuring stick for future productions. Check out the link below for the first picture of Thor, and some general information about the movie.

2. The reboot of the X-Men franchise. Fox Studios can’t leave our favorite mutants alone. So far, this production seems marred by turmoil. They can’t find a director or a good script to develop. I say leave it alone, and let Marvel Studios buy back the rights so they can develop it properly. There are some things I absolutely hated about the X-Men movies, and I’ll spare you the lengthy list. However, the current talk is to reboot the franchise starting with a high school storyline and origins of the original X-Men team. Seriously, can’t they just focus on destroying the next Wolverine movie right now. Check out the link below for more mind numbing information on the already doomed project.

3. The reviews of Iron Man 2. So far I’ve read and heard some negative reviews of the new flick. Of course, I have yet to see it. I can’t wait to see War Machine this time around, and the expanding of the Marvel Universe in film. I don’t really care what the reviews are saying, because generally sequels are never as good as the first. So until I see it myself I will hold any negative thoughts about the flick and go into it with reasonable expectations.

Well, I guess that’s all for the weekly rant. So, until they make a Dazzler movie, make mine Marvel!
